Circus party
Clear the ring for the ultimate circus party
Curtain up for lots of fun and adventure at a children's birthday party
Even as a child, a visit to the circus was always a very special highlight. We were whisked away to a completely alien world where fearless acrobats jumped through burning hoops, daredevil artists balanced meters above the ground on a thin rope and cheeky clowns made fun of the audience. The performances made us forget everything around us for a few hours and we immersed ourselves in a fascinating world of crazy arts. Children love to be infected by this lightness and good humor and hardly any theme party opens up as many possibilities as a colorful circus party with friends.
Behind the scenes: The fascinating world of the circus
The circus has a long and exciting history dating back to ancient times. The term "circus" comes from the Latin word "circus", which means "circle" or "ring". In ancient Rome, the Circus Maximus was a large arena where chariot races and gladiator fights took place. Later in the Middle Ages, groups of showmen toured Europe and presented their programs in many places, similar to the traveling circuses we know today. The modern circus, as we understand it today, emerged in the 18th century. The Englishman Philip Astley founded the first circus as we know it today in London in 1768, combining horse tricks with clowns or acrobats and presenting them in a circular ring, as is typical of circuses today. Traditionally, animals played a major role in the circus - horses, elephants, lions and other animals appeared in shows. Even today, Circus Knie regularly puts on its famous horse shows. In addition, modern circuses such as Circus Knie rely on impressive stage technology and artistic performances that combine traditional circus arts with theater and music.
How to transform your living room into a circus tent for a children's party
A circus decoration is as colorful as life itself and is a real feast for the senses. Hang red and white fabric panels or paper garlands from the ceiling to create the impression of a circus tent. It is also particularly effective if you make a tent entrance out of fabric or cardboard, through which your guests can enter the circus party by showing the invitations for the children's birthday party in the form of an admission ticket. Colorful balloons, garlands and streamers are essential, while fairy lights and large photo spotlights put the circus ring in the right light. The right food such as roasted almonds, popcorn from the popcorn bag, hot dogs or candy floss also create an authentic circus atmosphere. The table can be suitably decorated with our circus party items or with our red and white or red and yellow party items.
Let the games begin - ideas and games for the circus party
A circus is like a grab bag of curiosities, different artists, acrobatics and fun. The children can rehearse a small program during the circus theme party and then present it to a curious audience. Beforehand, let the kids slip into different roles, from circus lion to clown, from tamer to acrobat. Our dressing-up boxes with different circus costumes for children also provide you with ideas and inspiration. You can also set up a small make-up corner to transform the artists into wild tigers or funny clowns with a little paint. Foam balls are perfect for clown noses, while headbands with glued-on ears or paper hair give the animal figures a cool look. Paper masks or homemade masks made from paper plates are also perfect for a quick disguise. Skill games such as throwing cans or rings, juggling, balancing on a tightrope (e.g. slacking line or wooden plank), magic tricks or gymnastics performances are suitable attractions. You can hire a games box from us, which contains equipment for all circus roles.
