The perfect spooky party for children: Halloween games for all ages
A spooky party for children is a real highlight for little Halloween fans. Whether ghosts, witches or vampires - children love dressing up and immersing themselves in a world full of excitement and fun. But what should you look out for so that the ghost party doesn't turn into sheer horror? We'll show you which spooky game ideas are suitable for which age group so that all the kids come away with a fright at the end of the party.
Scary games for different age groups
Children love to get a little spooky and feel the excitement. But the line between scary fun and genuine fear can sometimes be blurred. That's why you should always make sure that the choice of games is best suited to the age of the youngest child so that the scary party doesn't turn into a scare without end. We have put together a few game ideas and sorted them by age group to make the selection a little easier:
Scary games for children aged 3 and over - scary game ideas for the little ones
At this age, it's all about having fun and immersing yourself in the scary theme in a playful way. It's better to avoid too many scary moments here.
Ghost hunt
Hang small paper ghosts from ribbons that the children have to catch with a net or their hands. Simple ghosts made of white paper with eyes and mouths that you hang from the ceiling on a string will do. You can also fill the ghosts with small sweets as motivation. To do this, take a roll of toilet paper, stick a base to the underside and attach the paper ghost to the roll. The children run around the room and try to catch the ghosts. If you don't feel like crafting, you can also use our small pumpkin buckets and let them dangle down filled with a little surprise or hide them in the room.
Pumpkin bowling
Paint plastic bottles as ghosts or pumpkins beforehand and place them around the room like bowling pins. The children must now try to bowl over as many bottles as possible with a small ball. Tip: You can fill the bottles with a little sand or water so that they stay in place at the beginning.
Witch's hat ring toss
The children have to try to throw large rings over the seats of the hat. To increase the challenge a little, you can also place the hat on a broomstick or wooden stick. The hat can be made of felt or cardboard (see also our Halloween guessing game "Guess what it is"which could first be used as a game before being turned into a ring toss game).
Fun and scary game ideas for children aged 5 and over
At this age, children can already play more active and somewhat trickier games. Small challenges make the experience even more exciting.
Mummy wrapping
The children divide into teams. Each team gets a roll of toilet paper with which they have to turn one of their team into a "mummy". The team that wraps the most beautiful mummy in a given time wins. All you need is lots of toilet paper and scary music in the background. Make sure that the kids don't wrap the paper too tightly.
Diving for apples
A classic that always gets a laugh. Apples are placed in a bowl of water and the children have to fish them out with their mouths - no hands allowed! To do this, fill a large bowl with water, put apples in it and let the children take it in turns. The first one to catch an apple wins.
Spider race
All you need are small plastic spiders and a few straws. Whoever manages to get their spiders across the finish line first by blowing through the straw is the winner.
Halloween game ideas with a real scary factor for children aged 7 and over
For older children, a ghost party can be a little more spooky. They love action, want to prove themselves and can cope with the odd scary moment.
Treasure hunt in the dark
Hide small Halloween treasures (sweets, rubber spiders, mini toys) in different corners of a darkened room. The children are given flashlights and have to find the treasures in the dark.
Feeling box
Various creepy things are placed in an opaque box or carton and the children have to feel them without seeing them. How about peeled grapes (for "eyes"), cooked spaghetti (for "worms") or rubber gloves filled with water (for "hearts"). Hui....that can get pretty gruesome for a moment.
Monster dance
Creepy music plays in the background and the party guests dance monster-style while making scary faces. As soon as the music stops, they have to remain in their current position and anyone who moves is eliminated.
With these game ideas and the matching Halloween decorations the spooky party will be an absolute hit thanks to the right and age-appropriate mix of creativity, movement and scary fun. Young and old alike will get their money's worth and participate enthusiastically.
