Craft tips for a children's space birthday party

Making alien hair bands

Jesus, is this an invasion of little green men? If you look at the guests at the space party, you could almost mistake them for real little aliens. The funny headbands make sure of that.

What you need:

  • Plain headbands
  • Pipe cleaners in green and blue
  • Small polystyrene balls
  • Wiggly eyes

Instructions:

The kids can attach as many pipe cleaners as they like to one end of the hair bands. For the look, the wire can be wrapped around a pencil beforehand; for stability, two pipe cleaners can be wrapped around each other. Now attach a polystyrene ball to the loose end and decorate it with two eyes.

Make your own alien slime

Most slime products contain lots of additives that we don't want our children to have access to without hesitation. Here are two options for how you can easily make slime where you have the ingredients under control.

Alien slime made from marshmallows

Alien slime made from marshmallows is slimy and even suitable for eating, but quite sticky. First melt the marshmallows in a microwave until they are almost liquid (alternatively, heat them in the oven at approx. 100 degrees for 20 minutes). Now add the flour and knead the mixture into a slime dough. Flour on your hands helps to prevent everything from sticking together mercilessly. For the colorful version, add food coloring to the liquid candy beforehand.

Make your own glitter alien slime

This variant is similar to a store-bought product, also with chemical ingredients, but the quantities are much smaller. Caution - please still avoid contact with eyes, clothing and furniture and of course do not put it in your mouth.

You need:

  • Liquid craft glue (water-soluble)
  • baking soda
  • Contact lens solution
  • Food coloring
  • Glitter
  • Small plastic stars

Instructions:

Mix the craft glue with a little baking soda and gradually add the contact lens solution until the slime reaches the desired consistency. Now add food coloring and glitter as desired and stir well until you have a smooth mixture. Add small plastic stars to make the slime space-age.

Game ideas for a really cool space party

Dance through the galaxy

Flying weightlessly through the universe - everyone imagines it to be really cool. Even if indoor skydiving is not exactly suitable for a children's birthday party, you can at least simulate a dance through space with small means.

What you need:

  • Black fabric or paper for the background
  • Glowing stars and planet stickers
  • LED fairy lights
  • Paper planets and rockets (homemade or bought)
  • Disco ball

Instructions:

Create a cosmic atmosphere with black fabric as a "space sky" (on the ceiling or on the wall), which you decorate with glowing stars and planets. LED fairy lights are perfect for imitating the starry sky, and hang paper planets and rockets from the ceiling. Now add a sparkling disco ball - and the cosmic disco can begin. You can incorporate various game elements such as stop dancing, bursting balloons (e.g. camouflaged aliens) etc. to the music.

Asteroid treasure hunt

There are all sorts of rocks flying through the galaxy - if you find a small asteroid or a piece of moon rock, you're in possession of a really great treasure.

You need:

  • Gold-sprayed stones or sweets wrapped in aluminum foil
  • Clues (small pieces of paper or cards)

Instructions:

Hide the "moon rocks" and "asteroids" in the garden or in the house. Using small clue cards with riddles, the kids are guided to the hidden treasures. The children can search individually or as a team.

Astronaut training for little space explorers

At the astronaut party, the youngsters are trained - there are various stations such as a space memory, a quiz about planets and stars, an obstacle course where the guests have to prove their space skills (climbing through hoops, crawling under the table, etc.) Those who successfully complete the training receive a well-deserved astronaut's pass as a reward at the end.

Astronaut food with a difference - original snacks for an astronaut party

While real astronauts in space have to make do with astronaut food compressed into capsules, you can let your creativity run wild with the snacks for the space trip.

Planet pizza

You will need:

  • Mini pizza bases
  • Various toppings (e.g. salami, cheese, olives, peppers, corn, food coloring for the tomato sauce, etc.)

Instructions:

You can either take a ready-made pizza dough and pre-cut these into different sized circles or make our super quick pizza dough without yeast using 500 g flour, 5 tbsp olive oil, 200 ml water or milk, 4 tsp baking powder, a pinch of salt). You can use plates, bowls or glasses as templates for the planets to form the circles.

The children can now fill their very own planets to their heart's content. To represent water, some of the tomato sauce can also be dyed with blue food coloring. Bake briefly in the oven and the planet pizza is ready.

Star biscuits

You will need:

  • A packet of ready-made cookie dough or a simple cookie cutter dough made from 150 g flour, 50 g sugar, 100 g butter, 1 tbsp vanilla sugar)
  • Cookie cutters (stars, planets, spaceship)
  • Icing (powdered sugar, lemon, water)
  • Edible glitter

Instructions:

Mix the dough, leave to cool for 1-2 hours, roll out on a floured surface and cut out and bake at approx. 160 degrees (fan oven) for about 10 minutes. Now the children can decorate their stars with glitter to their heart's content.
