Geburtstagsspiele Klassiker

Classic birthday games

Everyone knows them, but how exactly do they work again?

Here you will find a large selection of classic games for children's birthday parties, including age recommendations, rules of the game and the necessary preparation and resources:

Pot-kicking

Recommended age: 3 - 4 years, possibly as early as 2 years, although many children are afraid of being blindfolded

Preparation: none

Resources: blindfold, pot, spoon, gifts/sweets

Rules of the game:

Everyone probably knows this game from their childhood. One child is blindfolded and given a spoon. A pot with a sweet underneath is then hidden in the room. The distance between the pot and the child should be increased or decreased depending on age. Older children can also be blindfolded and turned around to make orientation more difficult.

The child then crawls off blindfolded and taps the spoon on the floor. The rest of the party encourages the playing child by shouting "Cold" or "Colder" or "Warm", "Warmer" and finally "Hot" until the child hits the pot with the spoon. As soon as the child has hit the pot, they can remove the blindfold and receive the sweet or gift hidden under the pot as a reward.

The journey to Jerusalem

Recommended age: 5 - 10 years

Preparation: none

Resources: 1 chair less than the number of children, music

Rules of the game:

1 chair less than the number of children is placed in a circle so that the chairs are touching each other with their backrests. Then the music starts and the children dance around the chairs. As soon as the music stops, all the children try to sit on a chair. The child who has not found a chair or seat is eliminated. Then a child is removed from the circle of chairs and the game continues until there are only 2 children left with a chair and finally the winner is determined.

Egg race

Recommended age: 3-10 years

Preparation: none

Equipment: 1 spoon per child, 1 egg per child, obstacles to increase the difficulty if necessary

Rules of the game:

Each child receives a spoon and 1 egg. The egg is placed on the spoon. Then all the children line up in a row and it's "On your marks, get set". All children run a previously agreed distance. If the egg falls off the spoon, the egg must be picked up again and, according to the original rules, the child must return to the starting line before they can continue.

Variation for younger children: Firstly, it is possible to dispense with this, as you have to go back to the start if the egg falls and it is sufficient to pick it up. Secondly, it is possible not to determine a winner in the egg race, but to play according to the motto "taking part is everything". This means, for example, that 3 or 4-year-old children do not compete at the same time but one after the other and everyone who manages to reach the finish line with their egg is a winner. It is even nicer when there is a lot of cheering.

Variation for older children: Older children can put the spoon in their mouth instead of in their hand or obstacles can be set up that have to be overcome, such as around cones or over taut strings.

Throwing cans

Age recommendation: from 5 years

Preparation: 1 table, 9 cans

Resources: 1 table, 9 cans, 1-3 balls

Rules of the game:

9 cans are placed on a table like a pyramid. Then all players in turn throw 3 times at the cans and try to make all the cans fall over. The difficulty can be changed by coming closer and increasing the distance.

Stop dance

Age recommendation: from 4 years

Preparation: None

Resources: Music

Rules of the game:

The music is started and all children dance to the music. As soon as the music stops, all children must stand still. The last one to move or not stand still while the music stops is eliminated. Then the music starts again until a winner is determined.

Spin the bottle

Recommended age: from 6 years

Preparation: None

Resources: 1 bottle

Rules of the game:

All children sit in a circle on the floor. There is a bottle in the middle. Then the children think of a task, such as walking around the circle on one leg or singing a song or something similar. As soon as the children have agreed on a task, 1 child is allowed to turn the bottle. The child to whom the neck of the bottle points must perform the task. The game can be continued for as long as you like.

Silent mail, whispered mail

Age recommendation: from 5 years

Preparation: None

Resources: None

Rules of the game:

All children sit down in a circle. The birthday child starts and thinks of a difficult word or sentence and whispers it into the ear of the next child. All the children whisper what they have heard into the next child's ear. The last child in the row says out loud what they have understood. Most of the time, everyone has to laugh their heads off at what funny things have come out of the initial word.

Balloon dance

Age recommendation: from 6 years

Preparation: None

Resources: Half as many balloons as children, inflated

Rules of the game:

Always 2 children get together to form a team. Then they clamp the balloon between their chests or foreheads and dance to the music. The team that dances the longest without the balloon or orange falling off wins.

Sausage snatching

Age recommendation: from 3 years

Preparation: Build a fishing rod with a stick and string

Resources: Fishing rod, sausages

Rules of the game:

An adult stands on a chair with the fishing rod in their hand. A sausage is tied to the fishing line. The adult then lets the sausage dangle just above the children's heads. The children must try to grab the sausage and bite off pieces.

Wheelbarrow race

Recommended age: from 7 years

Preparation: None

Resources: None

Rules of the game:

Two children always form a team. One child is the wheelbarrow and supports themselves with their arms on the floor. The other child is the "wheelbarrow driver" and takes the other child by the legs. All teams line up next to each other and then have a wheelbarrow race.

And for all those who are looking for other games and don't feel like preparing the games themselves, we offer various game packages for hire. They are delivered to your home 2 days before your party, including all the necessary game equipment and instructions.
